Monastery Trek Ladakh is the land of monasteries with many being true symbols of the Hinayana school of Buddhism. The monasteries of Ladakh give the region its unique beauty. Generally, most gompas and monasteries are built on lonely rocks or on craggy mountains to bring innermost peace to the pilgrims and devotees of Buddhism. The Lama’s head is called ‘Kushak’, which means rebirth, a visit to which will have the innermost soulful and peaceful effect on your mind and body.
Monastery Trek Ladakh will take trekkers on a lesser known trek through this spectacular region through some of the most beautiful villages and fascinating gompas. With its snow-capped peaks, remote villages and ancient Buddhist monasteries – Ladakh takes avid trekkers around the world’s most wondrous land.
Itinerary
- Day 01: Delhi – Leh
- Day 02: Leh
- After breakfast, start the Ladakh Monasteries Trek.
- Visit:
- Shey Monastery
- Thiksey Monastery
- Stok Palace
- Overnight at the guesthouse.
- Day 03: Leh
- After breakfast, continue the Ladakh Monasteries Trek.
- Travel by jeep to Lamayuru Monastery, rich in myths and legends.
- Overnight at the guesthouse.
- Day 04: Prinkti La
- After breakfast, start the trek.
- Cross Prinkti La (3700m) to reach Wanla village, home to an ancient monastery.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 05: Hinju
- After breakfast, trek through scenic landscapes to the pastures beyond Hinju village.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 06: Konzke La
- After breakfast, trek towards Konzke La.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 07: Sumda Chenmo
- After breakfast, trek to Sumda Chenmo, which has two monasteries – one active and one in ruins.
- Camp in the valley near the river.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 08: Sumda Choon
- After breakfast, optional side trip to Sumda Chun.
- Explore its ancient monastery with remarkable artistic treasures.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 09: Lanak
- After breakfast, continue trekking to the beautiful meadow of Lanak.
- Chance to spot Bharal (blue sheep) on nearby cliffs.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 10: Alchi
- After breakfast, climb Dundunchen La (4800m).
- Enjoy stunning views of the Stok and Zanskar ranges.
- Descend into Chilling, then raft on the Zanskar River to its confluence with the Indus at Nimu.
- Drive to Alchi.
- Overnight in Alchi village.
- Day 11: Alchi
- After breakfast, tour the well-preserved 11th-century Alchi Monastery.
- See its famous frescoes.
- Return to Leh by jeep.
- Overnight in camp.
- Day 12: Leh
- After breakfast, full day at leisure.
- Day 13: Leh – Delhi
- After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Delhi.
- Guided sightseeing in Delhi.
- Evening transfer to the international airport for onward travel.
